Burning Software - Is It On Fire?

The term, burning software, applies to any program that allows computer users to create their own CD or DVD discs. The software is available as packages that come with the purchase of a new computer system or as stand-alone programs that can be added on to any existing computer system. There are varying amounts of special features and functions with each program.

There are many companies that offer these programs including some that also create other types of programs. Burning software is becoming as common as any other sort of computer program with many of the programs having special features and functions that are exclusive to the company manufacturing them. Consumers can choose from many varieties of different brands and manufacturers.

In order to use burning software the user needs to place a disc of media - either a CD filled with music or a DVD movie disc - into the computer DVD tray. The next step is then to copy the media data from the disc into a folder on the computer. A blank disc (either CD or DVD) is then placed into the computer tray and the software program then burns the data onto the blank disc.

Burning software wasn't very common in the early part of the computer age because no many people needed to copy any amount of data that couldn't be contained on a floppy disk, which could only hold just over a Megabyte of information. DVD discs today hold almost 5 Gigabytes of information that translates to nearly 5000 Megabytes of data!

When burning software first became popular and the price of good software for burning dropped to within everyone's reach, the other companies who create programs throughout the world began to see what a big thing this burning of discs was going to be. There were soon hundreds of different burning programs available, with many of them having a lot of features the normal user simply didn't need to use.

Many major movie and music studios have always been against any sort of burning software because they view it as a means that the public can use to copy and give away or sell their material. While it's true that many people use burning software for that reason, the truth is that many people use the software for their sole use, creating backup copies of the bought movies and music in their collections.

This is called fair-use copying and is not illegal. This is, in fact, one of the reasons why burning software was created. Because of the initial cost of many DVDs when they were first introduced, many people were afraid that their investment would become damaged or scratched. This is why the DVD owners wanted to have copies made of their discs.

Burning software has become so common now, that many companies are offering their programs for free on the Internet. This is great news for anyone just starting to learn how to use burning software. The many different types and brands of programs can all be sampled and downloaded as free demos or complete programs.
