Dvd Copying

When we think about DVD copying we may have visions of someone sitting in a darkened room secretly copying movies that they've downloaded off of the Internet. Well, this may be true but more likely it's going to involve normal people wanting to make copies of their own personal DVD movies in order to have a copy for protection against theft or damage.

When people use DVD copying to make copies of the movies that they own, this is called fair-use copying and is not illegal. Provided the person only uses the copied movie as a backup disc and doesn't lend, give away or sell the copied disc, the law says it's all right. Fair-use copying means that we're allowed to make copies of the movies we pay for if we're at all concerned that the original disc may become damaged or lost.

The DVD copying software that many people have on their home computers most likely came already installed on the hard drive when they purchased the computer system. This type of software addition is called bundling and many computer manufacturers do this sort of promotion in order to allow them to sell more computers. This also insures that the software will be compatible with the computer's hard drive.
